Racism in Schools
Stand with us and make a positive impact today…
We live in a colourful and diverse world that accepts so much more than it used to – so why is race still a problem? Racism in schools is something MW Impact feel strongly about, and we stand by educating individuals about this topic and its devastating effects on people to this day.
NO PLACE FOR RACISM
Racism is a deeply harmful and insidious problem that affects all aspects of society, including education. Schools should be a place where children feel safe, supported, and valued, but unfortunately, this is not always the case for students of colour.
Racism in schools can take many forms, including prejudice, discrimination, and in some cases, violence. This can have serious consequences for students' well-being, academic achievement, and future prospects - something we are passionate at putting a stop to at MW IMPACT.
Racism Intervention Programme
The mentoring program we provide to schools and young communities aims to address contemporary social issues, particularly racial profiling, and gender bias. At MW Impact, we encourage inclusive thinking in our young people's environment. Support revolves around the effects of negative racial slurs and their impact on individuals at all important stages of life.

“Creating a brighter future for all members of our community”.

Dealing with racism in schools
It's hard to tackle racism in schools, especially when the people receiving the racial slurs are afraid to come forward. There are many ways racism occurs in schools , including:
- Racial profiling and discrimination by teachers and school staff
- Unequal access to resources and opportunities
- Cultural insensitivity and lack of representation in curriculum and materials
- Bullying and harassment based on race
- Disproportionate disciplinary action and punishment for students of colour
Racisms Negative Impact
Racism has serious and lasting impacts on people throughout their life. Racism in school could have a staggering effects on education and therefore hinder the victim's onward academic journey.
So, what negative impact can it have?
- Lower academic achievement and success
- Lower self-esteem and confidence
- Higher rates of absenteeism and dropout
- Increased risk of mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression
It is crucial that we take action to address and eliminate racism in schools. The MW Impact team operate on a ‘no topic off limits and no questions unanswered’ policy, meaning that all walls are broken down, bringing a real authenticity to our workshops.
How can schools Tackle Racism?
There are many steps schools, colleges and communities can take to tackle racism. This can involve a range of strategies, including:
- Providing ongoing professional development for teachers and staff on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Reviewing and updating curriculum and materials to ensure that they are inclusive and representative of a range of cultures and perspectives
- Implementing policies and practices that promote fairness and equity for all students
- Providing support and resources for students who have experienced racism or discrimination
We must work together to create safe and inclusive schools for all students. By taking action to address and eliminate racism, we can create a brighter future for all members of our community.
