Social Media Awareness

Impacting Lives

SOCIAL MEDIA

Social Media is potentially one of the biggest outlets for young people within today’s society, therefore it is important to support and guide those young people with the knowledge surrounding “all things social media”. With the perception that social media can have a potential negative influence on young people, the MW team work to support and guide young people in an understanding of how to use social media platforms in a positive and healthy way.

SOCIAL MEDIA POSITIVE IMPACT

Amongst all of the criticism, social media can have a number of positive impacts on young people when used in moderation and with appropriate supervision. Here are a few examples:

Connecting with others

Social media can help young people connect with others. Platforms can provide a way for young people to connect with friends and family members, even if they are physically far apart. It can also help them make new friends and connections with people who share similar interests.

Source of support

It can also be a source of support and information. Young people can use social media to find support and information on various topics, including mental health, relationships, and personal growth. There are also many resources available on social media for young people to learn about different cultures, events, and issues.

Likes/Comments Don’t Define you!

It’s really difficult to not get sucked into the negativity that social media presents. Cyberbullying is a very common topic of discussion at MW Impact. Unfortunately, there is no limitation to cyberbullying - it can happen 24/7! It can be hard for the victim to escape or get away from it. It can also reach a wide audience very quickly, making it difficult for the victim to control the damage, this is detrimental to young people’s mental health in schools.

“Social media is training us to compare our lives instead of appreciating everything we are”.

Cyber Bullying

Cyberbullying can have serious consequences for both the victim and the perpetrator. It can lead to feelings of sadness, anxiety, and depression in the victim, and it can also lead to legal problems for the perpetrator. It's important for young people to understand the serious consequences of cyberbullying and to speak up if they see it happening.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Overall, social media can be a positive and useful tool for young people when used responsibly and in moderation. It's important to remember, however, that it's also important to balance time spent on social media with other activities, such as spending time with friends and family, pursuing hobbies, and getting enough sleep.
